Recently a new study was released by Marketing General Inc. (MGI).  The focus of the study was to assist associations and membership organizations in refining their marketing strategies for an economic downturn.  The research study, “10 Tips for Membership Marketing in a Recession” was authored by MGI senior director Erik Schonher.

The study is based on the idea that executives need to understand the four basic phases of the economic cycle: expansion, prosperity, contraction, and recession. Executives also need to take into account that there are issues that are critical to members during each phase.  The report focuses on a number of issues the following are a few examples:

  • Examine what is critical to your membership and deliver with a passion

  • Know your most important members

  • Understand marketing as a strategic issue

  • Secure your budget

  • Know your capabilities

In an effort to inform members of the valuable resources available on our members-only section of the ISAE Web site, we highlight a different document each month. This month, we are highlighting the Creativity Awakened Handout in the Marketing & Communication section.

As most associations begin to wind down for year there is at least one thing on all of your minds...membership renewal.  In these economically challenging times we will all have to get creative when it comes to membership renewals and programming in order to retain existing members and attract new ones.

Take a moment to recharge your creative spirit!!

Members are also encouraged to contribute items for the members-only section of the ISAE website.  These can only be accessed by ISAE members.  Forward your policies to Leslie Murphy at lmurphy@isae.org or Katie Voorhest at kriggs@isae.org.

Are you looking for new talent? Did you know that one of the many benefits of ISAE membership is our job listings area on the Web site?  ISAE members can place their position on the Web site for free providing access to job seekers interested in working for associations and nonprofits.  Click on the following link http://www.isae.org/jobs.php to view current listings.  If you have a listing or want to know more, contact ISAE staff at kriggs@isae.org.
