Convention Wrap-Up

It is hard to believe that Convention has already come and gone. The 2011 Convention was the biggest Convention ISAE has ever seen. We had a record number of attendees, new receptions and breakouts, more sponsors and a brand new hotel to do it all in! The JW Marriott was more than willing to work with ISAE to help make this event a success.

Our Annual Golf Outing was held at Smock Golf Course. Even in the heat, we had a great turnout and a handful of golfers who walked away with awards. Here is a list of all your 2011 ISAE Annual Golf winners:

First Place Team:

Michael Claphan
Cress Hizer
Lane Velayo, CAE
Paul Wallace

Second Place Team:

John Green
Dan Kenninger
Tom Lannon
Mike Smith

Last Place Team:

Mike Kase
Karen Lowry
Jim Mansfield
John Poray

Best Dressed Golfer:

Male: Gary Bolinger, CAE-Indiana CPA Society
Female: Deann Patena-Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza

Best Blind Folded Putt:

Female: Karen Lowry-Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites

We look forward to seeing you all at next year’s Convention in Muncie, hosted by the Horizon Convention Center!

QR Codes and Beyond-by Nikki Gloudeman

In recent month's, ISAE has been moving forward on the technology front. We re-opened our Twitter account, started a Member’s Only LinkedIn group and became more active on our Facebook account. So, what’s next?

In speaking with some of our member’s at our recent Convention, we discovered the next big thing- QR codes! In the July issue of smartmeetings.com, Nikki Gloudeman makes it seem like QR codes are taking over the event industry. Some of the biggest names in the event business have already started to integrate these codes into their events including PCMA, MPI and IEEE. Here are some of the ways some of these big names are utilizing QR codes.

  • Business cards: Having your information put into a QR code and put on a business card is a fast and convenient way for people to get your information onto their phone.

  • Program information: Become paperless! These codes will allow attendees to pull up full event programs, sessions and speaker information.

  • Conference literature and session notes: A QR code can be posted outside of a breakout session with notes or relevant web pages, such as links to homepages.

One of the biggest benefits of QR codes is the fact that it is extremely "green." Why not be able to post all your information in a small code and eliminate the cost of printing. Of course, one of the biggest downfalls of the QR code is that there will always be something "new" to try next.

So, is this just a fad that will quickly fade away as fast as it came? The only thing we can do is embrace the newest technology in the event industry and see where it takes us!
