We all know that we are in a different economic time now. Associations and organizations are tightening their belts to ensure their longevity in this market. Some of you are practically going cross eyed going over budgets lately, but here is one area that you should not be cutting or scrutinizing training and professional growth.
Recently many groups have moved to fewer employees doing more or the same amount of work. One would assume that the people you are currently working with are your "cream of the crop", the people you simply can not do business without. But do they know this? One of the best ways that you can affordably reinforce the idea that you value your employees is to provide them with the opportunity to grow professionally. Your employees should feel valued and engaged and to guarantee that they do, invest in them by investing in their professional development. It is an investment that has great ROI! Want to get started? Click here to see the affordable opportunities for professional growth ISAE is offering in 2009!

Recently I read an article and the focus was how much talk there is about change and surprisingly how little action is being taken. The point being that we can talk about change all day every day, but if we aren’t taking any action what good does talking do? The reality is that many of us become complacent and we forget that we as professionals need to be preparing our organizations for the change that will inevitably be upon us in the next ten years. So the next time you think we are in good shape today or we are meeting our current members needs remember that you should be asking where will the organization be in 10 years and are we ready to meet a different generation of professionals needs?
"We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years
and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten.
Don't let yourself be lulled into inaction."
Bill Gates

By Jeff Wolfe
Pick up any newspaper and you’ll find countless stories of rampant political corruption, financial mismanagement, government bailouts, pandemic employee layoffs, investment fraud and un-adulterated corporate greed. As leaders and managers face unprecedented challenges, it’s essential for firms to avoid their own potential leadership pitfalls. Management must make a concerted effort to keep employees motivated and productive, while building teams and reducing stress levels.

More then ever it is important to be creating networks of professionals that support the association profession and the professionals that it is made up of. If you are currently an ISAE member and know someone that could benefit from professional growth through value packed education and networking as well as saving money on must attend programs then encourage them to join ISAE!
Check out the website for a complete list of benefits that ISAE offers to our members. Click on the following link to download a 2009 ISAE Membership Application.

Typically I would recommend a certain section of the Knowledge Brokers section for you to review this month. Instead I would like to challenge you to send me documents that your organization is currently using in the following areas:
-
Marketing & Communication Plans
-
Membership Documents
-
Meeting Planning
-
Organizational Planning
The Knowledge Broker area is a great resource. Please help us in keeping it stocked with materials that ISAE members can use to support their organizations. Please forward your policies/materials to Leslie Murphy, CAE or Katie Voorhest.

Green Meeting Means More "Green" in Your Pocket
In today’s tough economic climate there is just one principle to live by, if it makes good business sense, do it! If not, don’t! The good news is that what makes the most business sense economically is many times the environmental answer as well. Organizations committed to sustainability are finding they are not just surviving, in fact, they have been thriving. The bottom line is better, employee retention is increased, and consumers want to do business with them. This webinar will address the five key benefits to planning a green meeting, how to sell stakeholders, as well as a crucial resource, The Green Meeting Industry Council.
Presenters:
Tamara Kennedy-Hill, Executive Director, Green Meeting Industry Council
Nancy J. Wilson, CMP, Principal, Meeting Strategies Worldwide
When:
Thursday, April 9th
Time:
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST
Cost: $49

Especially now there are more applicants than open positions available for hire. So how do you guarantee finding the quality of people that you are looking for when you do have an available position? First step get the job in the right place! You wouldn’t go to a general store looking for a specialty product so why only post your job opening on the "general store" of job sites?? ISAE offers a unique captive audience of association professionals the ideal opportunity to find your "specialty" employee!
You don’t have to take my word for it! The CEO of Indiana Health Centers, Inc. had the following to say after posting a position recently on the ISAE website: "I will take a moment to say that working with you and your website was easy and trouble free. We also received a number of excellent candidates. I hope that we will not be recruiting again in the near future, but if so, I would recommend to the committee that they again use your service".
One of the many benefits of ISAE membership is our job listings area on the Web site. ISAE members can place their position on the Web site for free providing access to job seekers interested in working for associations and nonprofits. Click on the following link http://www.isae.org/jobs.php to view current listings. If you have a listing or want to know more, contact the ISAE staff at kvoorhest@isae.org.

Would you like to reach more than 500 association professionals? If so, then join your fellow members and advertise in the monthly publication of Synergy! If you are interested in advertising in Synergy with your own banner ad, please contact Katie Voorhest
The rates are as follows:
Animated banner ad - $200 per ad/per month
Place ad for three months or more and receive 20% discount.
