A Young Professional’s Perspective: What is Your Investment Worth?

Over the past 18-24 months we all have heard the word “investment” a million times. The current state of the economy, some ups but mostly downs of the stock market, and talk of retirement funds disappearing – we are bombarded with the harsh reality that investing doesn’t always work out the way we planned.  So the real question is what should we invest in now? For me, the answer is simply…ME.

I’ve realized that no matter what happens to the economy over the length of my career, there is one investment that will not be affected by the ups and downs of the stock market -- the one I make in myself. I have decided to make the investment in myself a top priority, both personally and professionally.  If I don’t do it, who will? With a variety of affordable professional development opportunities at my fingertips there is no better time.

So, I challenge you to take a second to look at your career and the investment that you currently are, or are not, making in yourself.  Then give it a face lift! I can guarantee one thing.  The investment you make in yourself will provide stronger returns even if the economy gets weaker!

“There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving,
and that's your own self.”

ISAE December Webinar: Why Should Associations Survey Their Members During a Recession?

December 9, 2009

During recessionary times, associations find themselves competing for their members’ shrinking time, attention, and dollars.  Without a compelling reason to join an association or to remain a member, associations may find themselves with shrinking memberships, which result in less dues and non-dues revenue, as well as fewer volunteers and advocates for the association.

Surveying members provides associations with the information they need to discover what the association offers that drives the perceived value of their membership.  In addition to uncovering the key drivers of value, associations can also determine which of those drivers are underperforming, as seen through the eyes of the member.  This allows the association to prioritize its improvement efforts while maximizing the return on its investment.

This webinar will show how you can incorporate a few questions into your member survey to determine what drives the value of your membership and what members think of how well you are delivering on your value proposition.

In addition to uncovering key drivers, the webinar will also demonstrate how you can use a few questions in your survey to learn why members join your association, and how you can develop profiling characteristics of your members who are most likely to have a strong, moderate, or weak relationship with your association.  Step-by-step instructions will be presented on question wording, scales, data analysis, and interpretation of results.

Larry Siebert, The Loyalty Research Center
