Our association has had several meetings at Valle Vista Conference Center in Greenwood. This site has been very cost competitive and offers easy access and parking. My personal favorite venues offer more entertainment options.

Mr. David Stamps, Executive Director

What is the best method your association uses for recruiting new members?

Training and education sessions that meet state continuing education requirements has attracted the majority of our members. Maintaining their membership status is based on the effectiveness of offering other services.

Todd Stallings, CHE

Referrals work well, as well as direct mailings. Many times a company or individual needs expertise or advice in certain areas, and that is pretty much a guarantee of a new membership.
Joy Melnyk
Agribusiness Council of Indiana

closed ended assn, question does not apply
Hoosier State Press Association
Mr. David Stamps, Executive Director

Holding events inviting non-members...such as EXPO, Regionals, etc. Non-members are charged higher prices so people often want to join to get the lower rate.
Brittany Nims

Peer to peer
IN Assn of Plumbing/Heating/Cooling Contractors, Inc.
Ms. Brenda Dant, Executive Director

Not sure that I see one method as a floating to the top to be deemed "the best." I think building relationships that unveil bottom-line benefits to the member company is the only way to get new members on in this economic climate.
Cathy Mendonca
Printing Industries of Indiana Association

Through collegiate recruitment on campus

Ms. Sara Nash, National Sales Director

Word of mouth from happy members
Nicholas Pasyanos

Yes, I think it will be a slow recovery
IN Assn of Plumbing/Heating/Cooling Contractors, Inc.
Ms. Brenda Dant, Executive Director

No, run on a government -spending cycle. Will be hurt by state problems this year (which is itself a result of lower tax revenues).
Todd Stallings, CHE
Indiana Association for Home & Hospice Care

No
Alpha Xi Delta Women’s Fraternity
Ms. Sara Nash, National Sales Director

Convention attendance was down this spring, but we are beginning to see an up-turn in business for our members.
Jim Montoya
Montoya Management

Not really...our association isn't as affected as others. The rich are still rich.
Brittany Nims
CEDIA

Yes, it has affected it considerably. Some signs of recovery, but the merging and buying of the smaller companies, I am not sure that is a positive situation.
Joy Melnyk
Agribusiness Council of Indiana

The slow economy reduced attendance at our annual conference by 20%. Many companies that had sent multiple attendees in the past sent fewer or none this year. Extra efforts to attract additional exhibitors offset the financial loss. I do not have any exact opinion on how soon the economy will improve.
Jerry Phillips
Indiana Industrial Operators Association, Inc.

Yes we are affected slightly. No recovery in sight. We will fall deeper in recession
Nicholas Pasyanos
Raybourn Group International

Hard to tell. Perhaps nurses are worker longer hours, less part-time because spouse is out of work. I don't have any data.
Ernest C. Klein, Jr., RN, CAE
Indiana State Nurses Association

Absolutely. Of course, fluctuations are a part of every business. Members have seen some recovery but are still acting cautiously.
Cathy Mendonca
Printing Industries of Indiana Association

Do you tend to outsource your meeting planning? Why or why not?

Ernest C. Klein, Jr., RN, CAE
Indiana State Nurses Association

NO, like the control so we staff for it
Hoosier State Press Association
Mr. David Stamps, Executive Director

Only our trade show in January. All others are done in-house, mostly as a cost saving. Our meeting planning needs are completely manageable in-house. I am not a proponent of out-sourcing.
Joy Melnyk

Ms. Susan Crow Jones, Executive Director
